Which size do I need for my pool pump?
Most above-ground pumps and filters use 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" I.D. hose; measure the fitting on the pump or check the pump manual.
Is the hose listed for pools?
Yes. It is IAPMO R&T Listed under certificate W-3342, which you can download from the Resources page.
Can it be used on a spa or hot tub?
Yes. The same hose serves spa and hot-tub plumbing where a flexible connection is needed.
Why won't my new hose fit my fittings — Schedule 40 or insert barb?
Two fitting families, not interchangeable. Flex pipe (S series) is Schedule 40 sized and is solvent welded into Schedule 40 socket fittings with a cement formulated for flexible PVC. The corrugated P series is plumbing-size hose for insert-barb fittings with a solid band clamp, not spring or wire clamps. A 1-1/2" barb (about 1.65" OD) will not enter 1-1/2" flex pipe (about 1.63" ID). Our hose is spiral reinforced, not braided.
Can the hose be used on a closed (dead-headed) line, and what about freezing?
No. Spiral-reinforced flex pipe and hose are rated for flowing water in an open-ended system with no dead-head pressure; under sustained static pressure the hose cracks along the helix — the classic case is an irrigation rotor riser behind a zone valve. In freezing climates, winterize by blowing out standing water, because ice expansion can crack the product.
Is flexible PVC hose termite resistant?
No. Our hoses are not resistant to insects, and termites have been known to eat flexible PVC. It does not attract them, but if it sits between a nest and a food source they may eat through it rather than go around. Mitigation is in the installation: lacing backfill and trenches with boric acid reduces the likelihood but does not last forever, so where infestation is active plan on retreating every few years.
